Brew at the Zoo

This relaxing event will give our guests an opportunity to see our animals and the view from the mountain while enjoying cold beer from the popular local brewery, Twin Creeks Brewing Company. Musical entertainment will be provided by the local bluegrass band Mason’s Creek. Plus, you’ll want to bring your appetite with you and get some tasty dinner at the Mountain Grille food truck!

Due to limited seating, we do recommend that guests bring a lawn or camping chair or you can simply dance the night away under the stars!

Adults: $10 for members and $15 for non-members (a drink ticket is included)
Children (21 and under) $7
Adults who purchase a Mill Mountain Zoo collectible commemorative cup will receive one free drink ticket.

The Festival Formerly Known as the Roanoke Harry Potter Festival (and then for a short time as Diagon Valley) is returning this fall as the Generic Magic Festival!

Join us in historic downtown Roanoke, VA for a magical street fair surrounding the Market Building and Franklin Street, just outside of Elmwood Park. In addition to a variety of vendors, we'll have a beer garden and a stage. These areas are free to attend.

Dinner Fundraiser

Fundraising dinner. October 10th from 4:00-10:00 a percentage of each meal eating in or take out will go towards the League for Animal Protection.

Visit Salem's graveyards to meet characters from Salem’s past and learn about our region’s history! All events are family-friendly, fun and informative, and not scary. Proceeds benefit the Salem Museum & Historical Society.

On October 11-13, Sherwood’s ghosts will tell their stories in the cemetery’s outdoor Amphitheater at 7 PM. Guests travel deep into the cemetery to reach the Amphitheatre, but will be seated for this performance under the stars. You will be entertained by ghosts including a Roanoke College president, a faculty member at Salem’s Elizabeth College, a Salem soldier who was part of the invasion on D-Day, owners of Lakeside Amusement Park, and the mayor for whom the Moyer Sports Complex is named.

This family and dog friendly event captures the spirit of what its host GO Fest is all about. You don’t have to be a professional athlete or even a serious runner to have a fun day outside, being active. 5K Runners will having timing chips, but walkers, dogs, strollers, wheelchairs, and kids are all welcome. There’s also a fun run for Little Heroes (ages up to 10) that has them leaping tall buildings and dodging kryptonite! Lunch will be served from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, while supper will be served from 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Tickets are $9 in advance and $10 at the door. Advance ticket sales for delivery are sold through October 12th. Advance ticket for both dine-in and take-out will be available until October 22nd. Each ticket includes spaghetti with sauce, bread, salad, and a beverage.

This year, we have exciting services to offer! We will provide dine-in table service and a self-serve salad bar. The event will also feature a bake sale with tasty home-baked goodies. Dine-in and take-out provided by local Italian eateries. For large or corporate orders of 10 or more, meals will be prepared with free delivery by our dedicated shelter volunteers. Stay and have the delicious meal served to you or take it to-go. For ever six meals sold, an animal adopted can leave the Roanoke Valley SPCA spayed or neutered to go to their forever homes. Project Support and Angels of Assisi strongly believe that animals can be so beneficial to a person's overall mental health so what better way to combine two amazing causes than hosting a super fun event that the entire community can enjoy! At Barktoberfest, guests will enjoy outdoor vendors, music, food trucks, dog/owner costume contests, demonstrations, speakers, and numerous chances to adopt their next best friend. The festival will start at 10 am and conclude at 3 pm. Barktoberfest is an event that offers something for everyone! We hope you, your family, and your pets will join us for a fun filled event!

Fierce Films Festival

Calling all budding filmmakers! Mill Mountain Zoo is looking for 3-15 minute short film entries about animals, nature or conservation. Film submissions from all ages are welcome! Mill Mountain Zoo Staff will select 7-15 films, depending on length, to show at The Spot on Kirk from 6-8pm on March 14. One winner will be selected at the end of the screening and will win a Mill Mountain Zoo Gift Basket and Family Membership.
All submissions must be on DVD, preferably in MP4 or AVI formats and mailed to or dropped off at the Zoo by February 8.
For the screening, all ages are welcome!
